Poetluck
A Convivial Three-part Gathering of Food, Friends, and Literature
WCDH's "Poetluck", a three-part monthly event, takes place on the third Thursday of each month, February through October, in the Colony's dining room. "Poetluck" brings together established visiting poets and writers with local readers, writers, aspiring writers, and all those interested in the creative process. Bring a dish or beverage to share, and a receptive, interested mind. The evenings combine conviviality, craft, and critique. Anyone may participate, actively or passively.
August 21 Poetluck will feature WCDH alum, Maha Hussain from Montreal Canada
Maha is a BCL/LLB Candidate at McGill University's Faculty of Law. She also holds an AB in Anthropology from Princeton University. Prior to law school, Maha was an aid worker in Tanzania and Pakistan, where she assisted refugees and local communities affected by conflict and natural disaster. She has also provided legal aid to refugees in Cairo, working with families and individuals from Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, and other African countries. Maha has also worked for corporate law firms in Toronto and New York. Her current project is a historical novel about the 19th-century east African slave trade.
Also reading at Poetluck will be current colony resident writers Connie Baechler-Smyrna, GA, Debra Kirschner-Brooklyn, NY, Rosemary Daniell-Savannah, GA, Anne Webster-Atlanta, GA and Diane Welland-Springfield, VA.
