The Essence of Lemon, Herbs, and Writing
Beginner writers, experienced writers, beginner bakers, experienced bakers.
This 90-minute workshop will cover how to make delicious lemon tea bread using three different sources of lemon flavor with tastings of the freshly made bread. Also, participants will learn how to write a poem using the black-out or block-out technique from a recipe or magazine article. Each participant will receive button journal to encourage writing and take home a mini loaf lemon tree bread.
5-minutes - introduction and explanation of workshop goals. 10-minutes - demo culinary techniques using microplane zester, juicer, and the use of scissors for cutting herbs. 10-minutes - preparation of bread and put into oven. Hands-on participation is offered. 10-minutes - explanation of black-out/block-out poem. 5-minutes - participant selection of recipe or article to use. 10-minutes - participant blocking out words on selected recipe or poem. 15-minutes - participant writing their own poem. 20-minutes - eating lemon tea bread and participants sharing their own poems. 5-minutes - conclusion and passing out lemon tea bread and button journals to each in-person participant.
Bio/Qualifications
Anna Gall is a culinary professional for the local senior outreach center in St. Charles, Missouri. She is a per diem culinary instructor at the local community college as well as author to many poems, short stories, and recipes for eMerge and other online publications. Her ongoing, labor-of-love writing project is a culinary book of stories, poems, and recipes. It keeps growing in pages!
