About the event
The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) is pleased to present an interactive virtual writing workshop instructed by Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg and Katheryn Lorenzyn. “Writing and Right Livelihood” will teach writers of all backgrounds, genres, and levels of experience methods for using their writing for the greater good in ways that don’t compromise their values or sacrifice their dreams.
The workshop will be Saturday, January 8th, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm Central on Zoom. Participants will be given the link upon registration. The class fee is $35 per person and all proceeds benefit the WCDH scholarship fund.
Making a living while holding open the space and mindset for one’s writing can sometimes be wildly challenging or feel very limiting. Beyond adjunct teaching, one of the most tried, tired, and true ways for many writers to support themselves, there's a world of possibilities. Learn what other opportunities look like and how to discover what's right for you. Two long-time Right Livelihood and career transition coaches and teachers will lead you through some short writing exercises and thought-provoking discussions to better discern what directions you might want to investigate further -- such as writing coaching, developmental editing, content creation, workshop facilitation and other forms of community teaching, or work in other venues and occupations that leave you fresh for your writing time.
Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg is the former Kansas Poet Laureate, author or editor of 24 books across genres, and founder of Transformative Language Arts, an emerging field focused on writing, storytelling, and other word arts for community-building, healing, and social change. Kathryn Lorenzenis a career development consultant who has coached hundreds of creative professionals through career strategy and transitions, and she's also a lifelong singer-songwriter and recording artist. Together, they offer Your Right Livelihood: an annual class and also an annual retreat about making a living from the work you love.
The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to nurture writers of all genres, backgrounds, and levels of experience in a supportive environment that builds community, energizes creative expression, stimulates new thinking, and optimizes productivity.
