They hold an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Arkansas and are the author of the chapbook Blush Less (Finishing Line Press\, 2015). Their work has appeared in The Journal\, Zone 3\, Passages North\, The Comstock Review\, BOAAT Journal\, and more. \nPoetluck is a beloved community gathering that brings writers\, readers\, and literary enthusiasts together in a warm and welcoming environment. The evening begins with a potluck meal at 6:00 PM\, followed by open mic readings at 6:30 PM. Guests are invited to bring a dish to share if they wish\, though it is not required. \nWriters of all genres and experience levels are encouraged to participate in the open mic and share poetry\, prose\, or works-in-progress. Readings are kept to 3 to 5 minutes so everyone has a chance to share. Her short story “House Call” won the Writer’s Digest 1999 Grand Prize and was acquired for publication by William J. Grabowski\, reviewer for The Horror Show magazine. \nShe went on to work at RMCC Radio/TV\, collaborating on screenplays and indie films under the late Jeff Ross\, and shot and produced short films along the way\, including a Hot Wheels “Beat That” competition video. \nJulie has published seven books\, works remotely as a developmental editor for The Authors’ Assistant\, and hosts the Writers’ Colony’s own Write Now podcast. Her latest novel\, Falling Stars\, has picked up sixteen awards\, including a Kirkus Reviews “Get It” accolade. Buffalo 8 Productions signed on in September 2024 as executive producer of the screenplay adaptation\, with Scottish director Michael Hines attached to direct the film right here in Eureka Springs. She’s also packaging a biopic drawn from a screenplay she co-wrote with Nashville performer Bart Bryars about his path from prison to musician. \nJulie volunteers as an ambassador for the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Northwest Arkansas Screenwriters Collective and the Editorial Freelancers Association. \n

After two dozen years as a news reporter and fifteen journalism awards for her work\, she now serves as Managing Editor of The Black Chronicle newspaper in Oklahoma City. \nShe has been a Woody Guthrie Poet three times\, and her work appears in the anthology Ain’t Gonna Be Treated This Way\, published by Village Books Press. It turned into hundreds of interviews\, a mountain of research\, and one wild book: Welcome to Eureka Springs: The I-Sh*t-You-Not History of America’s Quirkiest Town. \nThe book holds 60 true stories\, each one stranger than the last\, and together they capture the spirit of a town that has never done anything the ordinary way\, including a motorcycle-riding mayor with an anarchist streak\, and the mysterious “cure” that put Eureka Springs on the map in the first place\, to name just a few. Gaillot weaves together the town’s colorful history into a hilarious\, informative collection likely to become the go-to reference for all things Eureka Springs. \nCome spend an evening with Jude as he reads a few of his favorite chapters out featuring three Eureka Springs women who changed the world: hatchet-wielding Prohibitionist Carry A. Nation\, nurse-midwifery pioneer Mary Breckinridge\, and Flapper icon Irene Castle.  \nThe reading will be followed by a Q&A and interview hosted by Destaney Marie\, WCDH Residency Coordinator\, as well as a book signing. \nJude is a former journalist and open source software developer. In this two hour virtual workshop\, she’ll guide you through the turning points you’ve been carrying around\, the ones that changed how you see yourself\, and help you find the words for them. \nUsing a wine inspired framework (think vintages\, notes\, and what develops over time)\, you’ll move through guided writing prompts designed to meet you exactly where you are. No previous writing experience required. No pressure to share unless you want to. Her newest novel draws on the true story of Norman Baker\, shaped by years of research in Eureka Springs and insights from local historians.
