DESCRIPTION:About This FREE Event \nFour years ago\, Jude Gaillot set out to write what he figured would be a small project. It turned into hundreds of interviews\, a mountain of research\, and one wild book: Welcome to Eureka Springs: The I-Sh*t-You-Not History of America’s Quirkiest Town. \nThe book holds 60 true stories\, each one stranger than the last\, and together they capture the spirit of a town that has never done anything the ordinary way\, including a motorcycle-riding mayor with an anarchist streak\, and the mysterious “cure” that put Eureka Springs on the map in the first place\, to name just a few. Gaillot weaves together the town’s colorful history into a hilarious\, informative collection likely to become the go-to reference for all things Eureka Springs. \nCome spend an evening with Jude as he reads a few of his favorite chapters out featuring three Eureka Springs women who changed the world: hatchet-wielding Prohibitionist Carry A. Nation\, nurse-midwifery pioneer Mary Breckinridge\, and Flapper icon Irene Castle.  \nThe reading will be followed by a Q&A and interview hosted by Destaney Marie\, WCDH Residency Coordinator\, as well as a book signing. \nJude is a former journalist and open source software developer. He grew up in New Orleans and now calls Eureka Springs home. Join us for an inspiring evening featuring students from Clear Spring School as they share their original poetry and fresh perspectives\, continuing a long tradition of creative collaboration between our organizations. \nFollowing our featured student readers\, the floor opens to the community. Whether you arrive with a dish to share\, a poem to read\, or simply a desire to listen\, there is a seat at the table for you. \nPoetluck is about connection between neighbors\, artists\, and across generations of creativity. Featuring students from Clear Spring School underscores this spirit of intergenerational connection\, whether you come to support young writers\, read your own latest work\, or simply listen and enjoy a shared meal. \nAttendees are encouraged to bring a potluck dish to share. Long time Eureka Springs resident\, restaurateur\, poet\, and self-described justice junky\, Jack has appeared in many formats throughout the decades. He’s most known for his culinary hotspots\, which have been the scenes for artistic\, holistic\, and political comradery from New York City to Northwest Arkansas. \nHis poetry has surfaced here and there in small press publications covering a wide range of topics\, including his friendships with Allen Ginsberg and other intriguing characters. Through his work\, Jack explores the intersections of writing\, mindfulness\, and mindlessness\, putting his own quirky twist in the middle of it all.
