Facebook’s Season of Giving Makes Your Support Go Further

Support The Writers' Colony as a Recurring Donor before Dec 31 and Facebook May Match It!

The Writers’ Colony is a fantastic resource for writers from all backgrounds to find a time of quiet,

solitude, productivity, community…and delicious food. But we wouldn’t be where we are today without

the contributions from our writers and community members.

Under the Executive Directorship of Michelle Hannon, The Writers’ Colony was able to get to a place

where it could sustain itself through residencies. But Michelle gave us even more, she helped structure

ways writers could give to other writers through fellowships, scholarships, and special projects.

One of Michelle’s most prized accomplishments is the Scholarship Program. In 2022 alone we’ve raised

$11,000 and provided 19 writers to stay 195 nights. And now we’re looking at how we can expand our

funding, collaborate with other organizations, and develop equitable processes to make the most of our

Scholarship Program.

One of the ways we’ve been looking at making our existing programs more sustainable is through

developing recurring donations. Many nonprofits receive a lot of end-of-year giving, but then watch as

funds dry up mid-year. Recurring donations ensure a steady stream of income in addition to generous

one-time gifts.

And this holiday season, Facebook/Meta is matching donations for supporters who sign up for recurring

donations through Facebook between November 15 and December 31 up to $100. (Details can be found

here.)

Ten dollars is an amount barely noticeable to most people, but it can contribute to a gift that may be life

changing for a writer. And of course, if you can give more, please do so! You can sign up for recurring donations on The Writers’ Colony Facebook page from now until December 31 to take advantage of Meta’s matching funding.

But wait! There’s more!

We’re going to have a few events to sweeten the season!

The first one occurs November 29 at 7 pm on Giving Tuesday. We’ll be airing a special live streaming

video episode of our Write Now podcast on YouTube, interviewing children’s book author and Eureka

Springs’s aMUSEd Fine Art shop owner Ashley Wellman. Details can be found on our Events page.

We’re trying to use all the platforms available, so look for more info in our eBlast, on our socials, and

even in person in Eureka Springs.

We’re also looking for supporters who want to match funds raised at these events. Just reach out to

Tara at director@writerscolony.org to help us make these fundraisers more successful!

How else can I help?

We know you’re out there. You’re ready to sign up for recurring donations, but you want to know what

else you can do. We have a few options:

  • Share our Fundraising posts regularly with a personal testimony or note about why The Writers’ Colony is important to you.

  • Host a Facebook live event as a fundraiser specifically for the Giving Season. You could hold a workshop, share your writing, interview friends who are also supporters/alumni, etc. Make sure you provide the link so your audience can set up their recurring donations. (And if you let us know what’s going on, we can share your event.)

  • Make plans now to hold a fundraiser next year to help ensure the causes you care most about are well-cared for. Email us at director@writerscolony.org to let us know how you’d like to help.

  • Give the gift of a writing residency at The Writers’ Colony. Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising, so one of the best ways to promote us is to send people to stay with us. Email us about our gift certificates so you can give a writer an incredible gift. (You can also ask for it on your own wish list!)

Thank you so much to all our writers for helping us make The Writers’ Colony such a great place! Happy Holidays from us to you!
