Giving Tuesday is global fundraising effort on November 30, 2021. The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) will be participating to raise funds for residency scholarships. The WCDH scholarship fund aims to support emerging writers of all genres and backgrounds and amplify underrepresented voices. According to givingtuesday.org, “Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.” It is now a global movement that inspires people to give and celebrate generosity. WCDH raised $2,180 for scholarships on Giving Tuesday 2020. Our goal this year is to raise $2,500 to provide financial support for writing residencies to more writers in 2022.
In December 2019, the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH) established its first needs-based scholarship fund. Through the generosity of WCDH supporters, over $14,000 of financial aid has been given to 32 writers who would otherwise not have been able to attend a writing residency. Giving Tuesday 2021 will be an effort to rebuild the fund. Please join us on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, for a celebration of giving.
As a parent of two young children, and an adjunct faculty member juggling multiple jobs to get backburner. The WCDH scholarship fund allowed me the focused time and space necessary to make real progress on the manuscript for my second full-length poetry collection. I am forever grateful to WCDH and all the donors who create vital opportunities for working-class women writers like me to do our work.
~ Amber West, August 2021
This pandemic has caused so much tumult, but it's also been a time for opportunity and growth. A touring musician and writer, the touring ceased mid-March 2020, though my writing continued. Early 2021, before my touring resumed, I was invited to come to WCDH. However, the only way I could afford a residency was with a partial scholarship. Somehow, I wrote forty sonnets, which meant I was one third through (my project) with a clear plan how to finish. I also wrote a short essay that was accepted for an anthology and wrote a couple of other poems. I'm positive if I hadn't been at The Writer' Colony at Dairy Hollow, I wouldn't have (been so productive). Scholarship support allowed that to happen. ~Ken Waldman, May 2021
Please consider donating to the WCDH scholarship fund to help writers who require financial support to complete a writing residency. Your gift will have a lasting impact on the literary arts. Beyond providing financial assistance to the writer, countless numbers of the reading public will ultimately benefit from the work produced by our scholarship recipients. Donate here or mail a check to WCDH at 515 Spring Street, Eureka Springs, AR 72632.
