WCDH Seeks Assistant Director


The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow is seeking an Assistant Director. Applications are currently being accepted online through Wednesday, May 5.


The Assistant Director reports directly to the Executive Director (ED), serving as administrator and the primary contact/coordinator for all writers—tending to applications, admissions, orientation, communications, and overall residency experience at the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow (WCDH). Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains all residency related policies and monitors the quality of WCDH services;

  • Assists in maintaining the Fellowship Program, promoting fellowships as directed by the ED, designing and posting applications (Jotform);

  • Coordinates and facilitates Alumni activity and volunteer groups;

  • Records and publishes “Write Now at the Writers’ Colony” podcast regularly;

  • Develops a written policy and plan for promoting Alumni activity through social media and podcasts;

  • Serves as primary liaison with housekeeping/chef and writers-in-residence;

  • Addresses day-to-day maintenance issues as reported by writers-in-residence;

  • Manages day-to-day administrative operations (budget tracking and reporting, record keeping, database updates, verbal and written communication, and scheduling residencies and fellowships);

  • Manages workshop and event promotion, registration, and participant invoicing;

  • Accurately manages residency applications, communication, documentation, billing, and database record entry.

  • Assists the ED as directed in implementing the marketing plan, maintaining effective communication via social media, website, blog, marketing materials, mass mailings, and material distribution;

  • Designs promotional materials and banners for website events and news posts;

  • Promotes the WCDH through public appearances and contacts with media representatives, as coordinated with the ED;

  • Identifies, establishes, and manages community relations and ongoing partnerships in coordination with the ED (e.g. PoetLuck);

  • Assists the ED in writing, researching and monitoring WCDH grants and their fulfillment—providing oversight, reports and all accountabilities in a timely manner;

  • Manages the sale of WCDH-related merchandise.

Qualities sought:

  • Passion for and commitment to the work of the WCDH;

  • A self-starter;

  • Good people skills and ability to deal with varied personalities;

  • An ability to represent WCDH in speech and writing, as requested;

  • Excellent communicator;

  • A readiness to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;

  • Promptness and attention to detail;

  • Familiarity with computers, databases, internet, and social media;

  • Ability to accurately prepare and manage budgets;

  • Experience designing and developing social media and website content;

  • Ability to provide consistent fulfillment of tasks and follow-up;

  • Management potential.

This position is part-time at 25 hours/week and pays $15/hour with the opportunity for future advancement.
