A Beloved Eureka Springs Tradition of Words, Food & Community
Every third Thursday of the month, something magical happens at The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow.
The long dining table is set, the front door swings open, and voices—new and familiar—fill the rooms with laughter, story, and shared purpose. This is Poetluck.
A Brief History
Poetluck began more than two decades ago as a simple potluck and open mic, offering writers, poets, artists, and neighbors a chance to gather, connect, and share their words. Hosted in the historic Dairy Hollow House, this monthly tradition has become a cornerstone of literary life in Eureka Springs and a cherished ritual at The Writers’ Colony.
Originally created as a space for local creatives to break bread and celebrate the written word, Poetluck has evolved into a welcoming haven for everyone: residents, alumni, visiting authors, and community members alike.
How It Works
When: The third Thursday of every month (March – October)
Where: The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow
Address: 515 Spring Street, Eureka Springs, AR
What to Bring: A dish to share, your own writing to read (optional), and a generous spirit
The evening begins with a communal meal, featuring homemade dishes from every corner of the kitchen. After dinner, the room comes alive with an open mic where attendees share their latest work in a warm, supportive setting. From poems and essays to songs, scenes, and spontaneous musings, the mic is open to it all (within reason, of course).
Whether you’re there to listen or to share, Poetluck is about connection — between neighbors, between artists, and across generations of creativity.
Why It Matters
Poetluck is more than a monthly event. It’s a celebration of creative community. It’s where WCDH residents meet locals, where friendships are born over shared words, and where the value of storytelling is deeply honored. It’s informal, authentic, and truly nourishing — just like the best kind of writing.
Come hungry. Come inspired. Come curious.
Join us at the next Poetluck and see where the words take you.
