A Thoughtful Update to Residency Rates at The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow

At The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow, our mission has always been simple: to offer writers the time, space, and care they need to do their best work. Every decision we make — whether about programming, meals, or facilities — is guided by that commitment.

As we look ahead, we’re implementing a modest update to our residency rates, effective June 15, 2026, at 12:00 AM. This change allows us to continue providing a deeply supportive, distraction-free environment while thoughtfully responding to rising operational costs.

What’s Changing — and What’s Improving
Rather than simply increasing rates, we’ve taken this opportunity to simplify and strengthen the residency experience:

All-inclusive nightly rates
Cleaning fees are now built directly into the nightly rate. This means fewer line items, and a smoother booking experience.

Expanded suite tiers
Our suites are now structured in tiers to better reflect their size, amenities, and occupancy options:

Tier 1: Zeek Taylor & Margaret Wise Brown
Tier 2: Maya Angelou & Diana Rivers
Tier 3: Langston Hughes, Marianne Moore, & Dupps Den (double occupancy available)
Tier 4: Culinary Suite (ideal for longer stays or those who prefer added kitchen access)

Six nights of dinners each week
Residents will now gather around the table for chef-prepared dinners six nights a week (Monday through Saturday) — an expansion from our previous five-night schedule. This added evening creates even more space for conversation, connection, and creative exchange.

A dedicated pet-friendly suite
We’re pleased to formally designate the Langston Hughes Suite as our pet-friendly option, making it easier for writers who travel with companions to plan their stay.

Subject to availability, well-behaved dogs are welcome with a nightly pet fee of $20.

Weekly housekeeping for longer stays
For stays of seven nights or more, we now include weekly housekeeping — offering a refreshed space each week so your focus can remain on the page.

New Nightly Rates
With these updates, nightly rates will range from $123 to $137, depending on the suite. These rates reflect:

• Inflation adjustments
• Inclusion of cleaning fees
• Continued investment in meals, facilities, and resident experience

Why This Matters
We know that cost is an important consideration for writers. Our goal is not simply to adjust rates, but to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Colony — so we can continue to offer:

• Quiet, uninterrupted writing time
• Nourishing meals and community connection
• Well-maintained, welcoming spaces
• Access to scholarships and financial support

Planning Ahead
Our new rates will take effect on June 15, 2026, at 12:00 AM.

To give our community time to plan, current rates will be honored for reservations made before June 14, 2026, at 11:59 PM with receipt of a 50% deposit. We encourage those considering a stay to book early if they wish to secure existing pricing.

Additional Fees & Policies

Double occupancy
Available in Langston Hughes, Marianne M., Dupps Den, and the Culinary Suite. Additional occupant, +$50/night + $15/night for stocked kitchen access and additional nightly dinner service.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made within 30 days of check-in will forfeit the deposit.
Cancellations or no-shows within 7 days of check-in are responsible for the full balance.

Deposits
All reservations require a 50% deposit, which is fully refundable up to 29 days before residency. Cancellations within 30 days of residency are non-refundable.
No Reservation can be made without a deposit.
